Sales tax drop in City of Columbus

Despite the rampant inflation shoppers in Columbus are getting a bit of a break thanks to the Kansas Department of Revenue regulations. Shoppers in Columbus will be paying one-half percent less than they have been on their purchases for the next 90 days.

Search warrant leads to burglary arrest

Around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies served a search warrant at a Galena home as part of an investigation into the July 2, burglary of a rural Galena property.

A new lease to own equipment plan has been developed by the Cherokee County Road and Bridge Department to extend the life of heavy equipment while cutting maintenance costs.

Labette County Jail Report

Beau Delay Rogers, 27, was arrested Wednesday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and was released on $875 bail.

Area Accident Report

A Columbus man was injured in a two-vehicle accident north of Carl Junction, Mo., Monday. Allen H. Fischgrabe, 61, was traveling west in a 2017 Honda Accord at Route YY on Highway MO-171. A 2020 Jeep Cherokee driven by Jamie M. Lewis, 48, Valley Center, was traveling south.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Travis Anthony Doty, 39, was arrested Wednesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on a warrant and is being held without bail. Shane Edward Fisher, 46, was arrested Wednesday by Baxter Springs Police officers on two counts of criminal trespass and is being held in lieu of $795 bail.

The following persons were scheduled to appear before Judge John Bullard in Columbus Municipal Court Monday, July 11 at 4 p.m. Zane Bagdriwicz, 20, Columbus, pleaded no contest to charges of vicious animal and was assessed fines and fees of $170.
