Baxter School Board talks remote learning

With the semester in full swing and spring break right around the corner the Baxter Springs USD 508 School Board meeting March 7, to discuss district business. When a student uses remote learning days they must be approved for that individual and cannot exceed 40 hours.

Columbus Public Library Hours

The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday 9 a.m-6 p.m.. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 a.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon. Curbside service will be available upon request.

City of Columbus Court Docket

The following persons are scheduled to appear before Judge John Bullard in Columbus Municipal Court Monday, March 14 at 4 p.m. Daniel Christian Best, 22, Columbus, is scheduled for an initial appearance on charges of vehicle headlamps required and illegal registration.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Jose Manuel Robles, 43, was arrested Wednesday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of possess opiates, opium, narcotic drug or certain stimulant, use or possess drug paraphernalia for use in the human body and possession of certain depressants and was released on $7,000 bail.

Between 1803 and 1900, approximately 250 U.S. patents were filed for designs of apple peelers. One of the first designs was in the late 1700s. Apples were a major crop in the U.S., and the evolution of kitchen tools like apple peelers significantly sped up fall harvesting chores.

LCC honor society named outstanding chapter

The Labette Community College Tau Theta Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society has been named the Most Outstanding Chapter in the Kansas and Nebraska Region, for the third year in a row.
