Officials speak at legislative dinner

Legislative leaders and local office holders were invited to speak to the Cherokee County Farm Bureau members at their annual legislative dinner on Saturday.

Health Department releases COVID statistics

A number of new statistics on COVID-19 have were released courtesy of Cherokee County Health Department Administrator and Health Officer Betha Elliott. During the March 7 County Commissioners meeting, Elliott reported on the latest data that the department has gathered on the virus.

Wildlife specialist presents beaver trapping workshop

With the assistance of an in-depth slide show and a number of visual aids, KSU Wildlife Specialist Drew Ricketts presented a beaver trapping workshop at the Cherokee County K-State Research and Extension office March 4.

Hunter safety course set

The Cherokee County Sportsmen’s Club and The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks are offering a hunters safety course at 6 p.m. April 8 and 8:30 a.m. April 9 at the Sportsman’s Club in Columbus. Attendance for both days is mandatory for certifications.

Area Accident Report

A one-vehicle accident occurred March 4 at approximately 10:40 p.m. A 2008 Kia Optima driven by Cheyenne Bertrand, 22, of Texas was traveling west on Northwest Scammon Road. The driver lost control, went off the roadway to the left and struck a tree. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Labette County Jail Report

Allen J. McCall, 37, was arrested Saturday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of driving while license cancelled, suspended or revoked and possession of marijuana and was released on $1,100 bail.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Joshua Aaron Rowe, 36, was arrested Friday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of failure to appear and is being held without bail.
