Eagles Club to hold benefit for cancer research

Thanks to the West Mineral Eagles upcoming benefit dinner, lots of locals can have a full belly while being a serious blessing. The group is holding a meal on behalf of the American Cancer Society Saturday March 12 starting at 1 p.m.

The Columbus Lions Club named their Lion of the Month for February at their recent meeting. Columbus Unified High School Senior and LEO Club member Casey Soper was presented with the award. Soper is a member of the Titan Band and Jazz Band.

Democrats seek precinct volunteers

The Cherokee County Democrats will be meeting March 10, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Columbus Community Building, there will be a social with hors d’oeuvres for 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m. All Democrats and like-minded citizens are invited and encouraged to attend.

Cotton becomes viable Kansas crop

Across the state, small-town grain elevators painted with corn ears and wheat heads stand as monuments to the crops’ economic and cultural significance in rural Kansas. Cotton gins? They’re a bit harder to come by. Farmers have grown cotton in Kansas for more than 100 years.
