Coop expansion underway

Seeing the fruits of their labor beginning to bloom, the Columbusbased Farmer’s Cooperative Association is just two months shy from operating in their new $3.7 million facility from their location south of town.

Tossing around ideas of installing concrete pads in the city’s disc golf course, members of Columbus City Council debated the pros and cons that would come with the changes. “My recommendation is that we do install them,” Property and Parks Director Randy Coble said.

Just prior to 9 a.m. Wednesday, law enforcement with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and Columbus Police Department, served a warrant at 314 South Railroad Street. As a result of their search, 34-year-old Callie Lorraine Smith was arrested at the scene.

Local Girl Scouts are shining stars

The Girl Scout Shining Star Award is a Service Unit award who have assisted a troop or Service Unit. Two local girls have achieved this honor. Sookie Manar, is sixth grade student in Baxter Springs and has been in Girl Scouts since her kindergarten year.
