Chamber plans all school reunion

Though it seems a long time away, the Columbus High School five year all school reunion committee has had their first meeting. The committee has met and set the date for the 2023 event on June 30, July 1 and 2 to be held at the State Theatre Event Center in Columbus.

Commission struggles with delinquent taxes

What started as a discussion on an upcoming tax sale amongst the County Commissioners turned into how to enforce delinquent payments. “I’m just trying to save us all and the tax payer any confusion that may (occur),” Commissioner Lorie Johnson said.

Renewable energy meeting Monday

The rise of renewable energy is striking at the heart of Cherokee County as solar farms and wind turbines have tried setting up shop in the area. The County Commissioners set a public comment session on the topic in the courthouse for February 7.

Man held on possession of meth, handgun, paraphernalia

Just after 10 p.m. Monday, Newton County, Missouri authorities pursued a vehicle into Cherokee County. The vehicle fled down Bagdad Road, before crashing and the driver fleeing on foot. Following a short manhunt, the driver, identified as Nathan Small, was located and taken into custody.

Labette County Jail Report

Joshua Allen Whittley, 20, was arrested Monday by the Kansas Highway Patrol on charges of driving under the influence and is being held in lieu of $1,608 bail.
