Area Accident Report

A car vs. deer accident occurred January 25 at approximately 8:30 p.m. A 2014 Ford Fusion driven by Lisa Street, 56, Baxter Springs, was traveling south on Southeast Highway Alternate 69 when she struck a deer in the roadway near West North 10th Street.

Southeast Kansas soil health conference

The Southeast Kansas Soil Health Conference will be hosted by Kansas State Research and Extension, along with Great Plain Regeneration. The event will be held Tuesday, February 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the McCune Community Center located at 410 5th St. in McCune.

Southeast FBLA members place in top 10 at district

Future Business Leaders of America recently held their District I competition. Southeast students participated in the event. Those placing in the Top 10 in their events. In Advance Accounting Derick Burger placed third; John Turpen placed sixth and Lily Webster placed seventh.

The newest buzz of the town occurred in the Cherokee County Extension Office in Columbus January 29. Nearly 20 individuals from the surrounding community attended a Beginner Beekeeping Class that Cherokee County Area Beekeepers group held.
