With fall cleanup right around the corner, now is a good time to start a compost pile with the scraps. Compost is organic material that is decayed by microorganisms, and adding it into your soil improves moisture retention, soil texture, and nutrient levels.

A school bus was involved in an accident Thursday at approximately 3:56 p.m. A 1989 Dodge driven by Wyatt J. Hall, 16, Weir, was traveling north on Buckeye in Cherokee. A 2008 school bus driven by Bruce L. Washington, 62, Cherokee, was traveling west on Cedar.

No damage reported in local storms

Despite the heavy rains and tornadic activity in the four-state area there was no significant damage in the county, according to Jason Allison, County Emergency Management Director. The local weather reports showed one to three inches of rain around the county.
