Cover crop: Who what where and rye

Of the dozens of cover crop species, rye is king. It grows fast in the spring, can be planted late in the fall, and suppresses weeds like no other. There is a reason most cover crop mixes have rye as the background. It is highly effective in post corn and going into long season soybeans.

Nineteen new ballots were added to the vote count following the canvass of the election Monday by the County Commissioners. Five of the 24 provisional ballots were rejected while the other 19 ballots were counted.

County predicts 14 mil tax drop

At the end of their first budget session with the county auditor, Cherokee County commissioners are projecting a 14 mil decrease in property taxes for 2022. The commissioners received word from their health insurance administrator that they could expect a decrease of approximately $1.

Chamber sidewalk sale set

The excitement of a sidewalk sale will be brought to Columbus tomorrow (Thursday) as several merchants will be participating in the Chamber of Commerce event.

Delinquent 2020 tax list published

The first publication of the Cherokee County Delinquent Property tax for 2020 is in today’s edition of the News-Report. The list is of those taxpayers who are delinquent with their 2020 taxes and does not contain taxes due from previous years.

Bulk water unavailable six months

Bulk water will be unavailable from the City of Columbus for the next six months starting August 20. This service will be curtailed to allow the demolition and construction of the new public works office building.
