The Cherokee County Area Beekeepers will host their monthly meeting August 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County Extension Office. Special guest and speaker this month will be Dr. Mary Kilmer presenting on the sociality of bees.

‘Back to school’ sidewalk sale set

The Retail committee of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce has announced that some of the retail members will be doing a “Back to School Sidewalk Sale” Thursday, August 12. Retail businesses will be offering special sale items in preparation for the upcoming school year.

The 2021 County Fair Grand Champion Meat Goat was shown by Lone Elm Beavers 4-H Club member Hudson Asher. Columbus Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Kurtis Gregory paid the $1,800 premium for the 74-pound animal. Hudson is the son of Aaron and Constance Asher.

Special school bond election set Tuesday

Voters in USD 493 School District will go to the polls Tuesday to vote on a proposed $14.75-million bond issue all the funds spent would be directly related to classrooms except the Central cafeteria which would also be a storm shelter.

Building of downtown splash pad underway

Dirt work for the new Splash Pad water feature in Discovery Park has begun. The new pad will not replace or change the gazebo which will remain the center feature of the park. A splash pad or spray pool is a recreation area, installed in the park for water play and has little or no standing water.
