Students from Southeast participated in the Cherokee County Youth Entrepreneurship Fair held recently at Columbus High School. Second place overall and a prize of $1,000 was awarded to Taylore Hudgins (at right) for her business Tay’s Candle Creations.

Amy Christine Kelly, 48, was arrested Monday by Galena Police officers on charges of failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $2,500 bail. Bazil Vance Hudson, 28, was arrested Monday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of failure to appear and is being held without bail.

Area fire crews were busy most of the day Monday with a grass fire on Forest Ave. in the Empire area of Galena. Six departments, 15 emergency units and more than 25 firefighters responded to the blaze.

Superintendent’s contract extended

The contract of Superintendent Dr. Brian Smith was extended by the Columbus USD493 Board of Education through the 2022-23 school year at their meeting Monday evening. The board also extended the work agree ment of Stacy Edmondson as transportation assistant through July 1, 2021.
