Jerry Mattox, 86, Columbus

Jerry T. Mattox, 86, of Columbus died Saturday, September 16 at 5:05 p.m. at Medicalodges in Columbus. Born February 27, 1937, in rural Neosho County, Jerry was the son of Shelby and Aletha (Hevel) Mattox. They preceded him in death. Jerry was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Tomlinson. Jerry was a graduate of Cherokee County Community High School with the class of 1954.

Jerry and Carol Robison were united in marriage June 3, 1956. She survives of the home. Jerry was a skilled mechanic and repairman and operated various businesses in Columbus over the years, including Mattox Motors, Mattox Body Shop and Columbus Auto Salvage.

A member of the Columbus Christian Center , Jerry served his community as a member of the Columbus City Council as well as the East Side Association of Columbus.

Jerry will be remembered as someone who was passionate about travel, especially by motorcycle, with many special memories made touring the country with his wife Carol.

In addition to his wife, Carol, Jerry is survived by his son, Dave (Julie) Mattox; son-in-law Kent Tomlinson and brother Ed (JoAnn) Mattox. Grandchildren Shelby and Cameron Sale, Jake and Libby Mattox and Alex and Kayla Karriman; and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Jerry is to be cremated, and the family will hold a memorial service independently on Sunday October 1 at 2 p.m. at the Columbus Christian Center. Arrangements are made by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home and Crematory of Columbus. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor. com.
