John Dickinson

John L. Dickinson, 87, of Oswego, died at 11:16 a.m. Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Labette Health, in Parsons following an illness. Born March 9, 1936 in Oklahoma City, Okla., John was the son of Carroll A and Virgie Mae (White) Dickinson. He had lived most of his life in Oswego, moving here from Newalla, Okla.

John served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1958. John worked on B36 and B52 and other aircraft, earning a letter of recommendation. He was a farmer, raising cattle and turkeys and custom harvested for 11 years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.

John also worked a period of time at Seward Coach in Oswego and at Thomas Implement Company in Altamont. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Oswego.

John was known as a man who could fix anything. He also built and flew model airplanes. At one time he had part interest in Swift Airplanes and was a member of the Oswego Airport Board.

John and Gaile A Mitchell were united in marriage November 26, 1955 at Oswego. She survives. Additional survivors include one son, John W Dickinson, of Brownwood, Texas. Two sisters-in-law and several cousins also survive.

John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Austin Dickinson and two sisters, Mable Lange and Lydia Marie Dickinson.

A funeral service was held Thursday, September 14. Pastor Steve McBrien officiated. Private burial will be at Oswego Cemetery Friday, September 15.
