Titans split track teams due to scheduling conflicts

The Columbus Titan Track and Field Team split their squad following a schedule change due to the weather. The team was scheduled to participate in the Northeast Viking Invitational in Arma on Thursday and the Thad Clemens Invitational in Chanute, Friday.

Lions Split with Parsons

Baxter Springs Baseball won their opener, edging out the Parsons Vikings in the seventh inning, 4-3, at the Field of Dreams Complex, May 2, before losing the second game, 5-1. In the first game, neither team could score through the first three innings, leaving runners on base in each inning.

Titan Senior, Trey Laurance, placed second in the Thad Clemens Invitational Meet in Chanute, Friday, with his new CUHS record of 4:37.93 minutes, beating the previous record of 4:39.7 minutes set by Weston Edwards in 1979. He is being recognized as Titan of the Week.

The Lady Titan Junior won a two-game sweep over Girard, Friday, at the Columbus Community Field Ball Park. Freshman, Katy Mooney, was the starting pitcher for the 4-3 win in game one and sophomore, Mady Garcia, pitched the shutout in game two, 5-0.

The Titan Golf Team took third place in the Girard Invitational, Tuesday, with Titan Senior, Trent Smith, leading the team with his fifth-place finish individually and junior, Mack Kirk, taking eighth place. Smith completed the 18-hole contest with 89 strokes and Kirk scored 93.

The Titan Baseball Team hosted a fundraiser golf tournament, April 16, at the Brush Creek Golf Course. The top three places in three flights received awards as well as closest to the pin and straightest drive contest winners.

Emma and Eliza Maxwell ran a dead heat to tie for first place in the 800-meter run and led Life Christian to a third-place finish Saturday, April 30, in the Midstates Christian League Track and Field meet at Uniontown.

Lady Lions shut out Parsons

A wet field in Baxter Springs moved the Lady Lions to Parsons as home team on a dryer field. Senior, Hallee Panter, pitched a three-base hit, 10-0, shutout in the second game. She struck out five and issued one walk over six innings.
