The Girard Trojans moved to the top of the leader board at 3-0 with a win over Columbus, 47-26, Friday. Frontenac got back on the winning track with a win over St. Mary’s-Colgan and Galena improved to 2-1 after halting the Riverton Rams winning streak at two.

Brandon Pate, the new boys’ basketball head coach at Riverton High School and a former All-American at Pittsburg State, died unexpectedly Sunday. He was 45.

Galena started the scoring with Riverton traveling into the Dog Pound, Friday, for a CNC League contest. In their second possession and with six minutes off the clock, Galena went 78 yards in eight plays for the first score in their 42-24 win over the Rams.

The Columbus Titans were unable to avenge their 2020 playoff loss to the Girard Trojans, Friday night at Frank Jameson Field. Instead, they ran into a team with 12 seniors, a large group of returning juniors in key positions and an explosive offense that handed the Titans a 47-26 loss.
