Baxter Springs adds two wins to season record

Baxter Springs (10-6) volleyball squad traveled to Cherryvale on Tuesday and returned home victorious with wins over Cherryvale, 25-16; 25-21 and Humboldt, 18-25; 25-23; 25-21.

Sportsman derby Saturday

Its time for the annual free fishing derby sponsored by Cherokee County Sportsmen’s Fish and Game Association. Event is open to youth ages 16 and under and is divided into four classes. Ages six and under; ages seven-nine; ages 10-12 and ages 13-16. Prizes will be awarded.

Columbus hosts eighth tourney

The Columbus Lady Titan Eighth Grade Team hosted an eight-team tournament, Saturday that included all seven CNC League Teams and Pittsburg. The St. Mary’s-Colgan Lady Panthers. The teams were divided into two pools.

Changes made to JV Football

The September 27 Junior Varsity Football game was changed from a Baxter Springs contest to a matchup with the Caney Valley Bullpups in Caney. The October 4 game was rescheduled to play Diamond, Mo. and is now and open date. The balance of the schedule will remain the same.

The Central Junior High Eighth Grade Basketball Team hosted an Eighth Grade Tournament, Saturday and came away with fourth place out of eight teams.

Galena beats SE in best of five

The Southeast Lady Lancers opened their best-of-five series with Galena, Thursday with a win in the first set. But the visiting Lady Bulldogs rebounded and won the next three sets to earn the win, 25-22, 19-25, 22-25, 23-25 “We lacked energy from the start,” said Head Coach Maya White.

Lancers add game with Sedgwick HS

The Southeast Lancer football team has added a game to their 2021 schedule, Friday. Southeast will host Sedgwick High School in Cherokee with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Mini Football opens as home Saturday

The Columbus Titan Mini Football Team will open their 2021 season, Saturday on their home field at Titan Stadium. The Titan third and fourth grade squad will host Independence for an 11 a.m. bout. The fifth and sixth grade Titan Team will take the field at 1 p.m. when Arma comes to Columbus.

An eight-team volleyball tournament had the Lady Lions spending all day in Frontenac, Saturday, playing six matches over nine hours from, 9 a.m. to after 6 p.m. that evening. Baxter Springs started the day against Girard. The opening set started even at 13, down 14-17.

SE Junior Varsity first at Girard

The Lancer Junior Varsity Boys Cross Country Team placed first in the race at Greenbush, Thursday. “We have been battling some injury and sickness,” said Coach Laney Lawson. “But nevertheless, we ran well at Greenbush and got better. I’m super proud of every kid that ran!
