Centennial exhibition held in Philadelphia

Nations, like people, have special parties and observances to celebrate birthdays and other successes. In 1876, the United States celebrated its 100th birthday with the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia. It started on May 10 of that year.

Gudrun Hale serves up biscuits

Gudrun Hale serves up biscuits and gravy at the American Legion Auxiliary monthly breakfast Saturday, January 8. Once again, the breakfast was so popular that the cooks sold out early. The monthly breakfast is usually held the second Saturday of the month.

Rand is February 4-H member

Cherokee County 4-H has announced their member of the month for February. Madisen Rand is a member of the Spring Valley Sparklers 4-H Club, where she has previously held the office of treasurer.

The USD 493 Board

The USD 493 Board of Education voted to accept the Guaranteed Maximum Price bid from Crossland Construction Company as presented by Derek Havercamp for construction of the High Safe Room addition. According to the bid the total cost cannot exceed $2,599,175 including known alternates.
