Local Girl Scouts recycle bottle caps to create new bench

The result of lengthy labor has been realized by the Cherokee County Girl Scouts. A couple years back, leaders Mavis Bowin and Johnnia Wammack became aware of a program by saving water bottle caps, and most hard caps from any product, could be recycled into useful benches for parks, sidewalks, etc.

Brackney named to Bethany honor roll

Bethany College in Lindsborg has announced that Justice M. Brackney of Parsons has been recognized for academic performance during the Fall 2021 semester and have been named to the Honor Roll. Brackney is a Biology major.

Riverton High School announces second semester honor rolls

Chad Harper, principal of Riverton High School has announced the honor rolls for the second term. Superintendent’s Honor Roll Students making a 4.000 – 4.000 grade point average. Freshmen: Madelynn Darnaby, Maelee Dunn, Bethany Hilderbrand, Kassidy Kell and Sydney Moore.

University of Saint Mary honor roll

University of Saint Mary Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michelle Metzinger has announced the Fall 2021 Dean’s List. David Swanwick of Chetopa and Jacob Walker of Oswego were named to the list and ended the semester with a 3.5 grade point average or better.

Drury University has announced the Day School Fall 2021 Dean’s List. Students making the list include Matthew Dalton of Baxter Springs and Mason Huebner from McCune.

Competition and tensions ran high in one local school’s spelling bee Friday, January 7. Southeast Middle School invited the top 20 fifth through eigth grade students to compete to become the top two spellers of their school.
