Cherokee County 4-H has announced the member of the month for December is Kora Welch. Welch is 11 years old and a fifth-grade student at Central Elementary in Columbus. She is a member of the Spring Valley Sparkler’s 4-H Club. She is currently a 4-H council representative.

A theme of red and yellow and Pittsburg State University gorilla centerpieces greeted members of Baxter Springs’ Chapter BT of the P.E.O. Sisterhood at their meeting Monday, November 15 at 7 p.m. in Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church.

A terrific time was recently had by a group of local ladies. The Cherokee County Hospitality Center recently played host to nearly 20 women playing bunco together. Quapaw, Okla., Columbus, Commerce and Scammon were all represented Tuesday morning.

Democrats will hold Yuletide party Thursday

The monthly meeting of the Cherokee County Democrats will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 2 at the Old Riverton Post Office. There will be a short meeting and a Christmas party. It is asked that those attending bring a snack to share. Drinks will be provided.

Republicans to hold holiday dinner meeting

Mark your calendar for December 2 at 6:30 p.m. for the end of the year holiday meeting. We will probably meet at the Columbus courthouse There will be a covered dish meal with table service and drinks provided.

West Mineral Eagles annual Christmas meal

West Mineral Eagles 918 will hold their annual Christmas dinner and ornament auction Saturday, December 11. Covered dish dinner will be served at noon. Please bring ornaments or Christmas items for the annual charity fundraiser auction following dinner.

At 9 a.m. November 1, Chairman Moates called to order the regular session of the Cherokee County Commission in room #109 of the Cherokee County Courthouse located at 110 West Maple, Columbus, Kansas. Commissioner Johnson opened with Prayer to Father God the Creator.
