Searching out light in darkness

As the days grow shorter and Daylight Saving Time comes to a close, we may find ourselves overwhelmed by various feelings. These feelings may include anxiety or sadness, yet we may be helped by considering that in the darkness is when a light shines the brightest.

Columbus FCC sets chili, soup luncheon

November is just a few days away which signals it is time for the First Christian Church to host their annual Fall Chili and Soup Luncheon.The drive through only event will be held Friday, November 7 from 10:30 a.m. until sold out.

Riverton High School honor rolls

The first quarter honor rolls for Riverton High School have been announced.Those named to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll, students making a 4.000-4.000 Grade Point Average include Freshmen: Carter Darnaby, Taylor Hartin, Braylen Kidd, Tori Shafer and Nolan Sparks.

Cherokee County Rural High School Class of 1960 gathers for reunion

The 65th anniversary of their graduation was held by the Columbus Class of 1960 Saturday, October 11 at the Hospitality Center in Columbus.There were 23 class members present as well as several guests.The afternoon was spent eating and visiting.

Facing our fears

Many of us may have found that the fears we encountered as children have significantly changed as we grew older. Of course, this is normal, but sometimes, addressing our fears as adults can actually be a more difficult undertaking.

Enjoying the little things

Many find the imagery of fall to be quite comforting, whether it be the colorful leaves falling from trees or bountiful pumpkin patches and apple farms.

Sixtieth wedding anniversary celebrated by Woods’

The daughters of Floyd and Dixie Woods, of Pittsburg, are both grateful and proud to acknowledge their parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. The occasion was celebrated September 25. The couple was married September 25, 1965 at the First Christian Church in Columbus.

Beauty in imperfection

One succinct way to characterize the fall season is “imperfect,” and this is actually a great thing. Whereas some may characterize the winter by the even sheets of snow that fall to the ground, or summer by the perfectly bright and clear weather days, fall is quite different.

The descendants of Daniel and Catherine Hefley gathered Sunday, September 21, at the Cherokee County 4-H Building in Columbus for their 91st annual reunion. Seventy-three family members attended the potluck dinner.
