CAC picnic in park returns

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 14. The Columbus Area Churches are having a Picnic at the Park. The picnic was an annual event put on by the C.A.C every fall until around 2019 as Covid came and there hasn’t been one since.But, June 14 at 5 p.m. that will all change.

Early sign-ups open for CCCD projects

The Cherokee County Conservation District is accepting applications for the FY 2027 Water Resources, Non-Point Source Pollution Control and KACDWRAPS Partnership Initiative Cost-Share Programs. The sign-up is underway and will end Friday, June 25.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Aaron Daniel Jones, 36, was arrested Wednesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of vehicle liability insurance required, driving while suspended, possession of certain stimulants and use or possess drug paraphernalia for use in the human body and was released on $2,500 bail.

Chad Saporito Summer Classic starts tomorrow

The Chad Saporito Summer Classic Baseball Tournament gets underway tomorrow with pool games throughout the day on all diamonds at the Columbus Community Field Ball Park. The championship brackets will be played beginning Sunday at 8 a.m.

Free fishing days returns

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has announced their annual Free Fishing Days slated for June 6 and 7.During Free Fishing Days, anyone can fish by legal means without a Kansas fishing license. Length and creel limits will still apply, and all other fishing regulations remain in effect.

Local pools, splash pad open for summer

With temperatures already reaching the high 80’s and low 90’s communities are opening pools and splashpads to help residents cool off.Columbus offers two water based activities for adults and youngsters.

Rehab completed on Columbus water tower

Much to the jubilation of many city water customers, the City of Columbus has finished the rehabilitation of their water tower.The project, which is part of a ten-year service and maintenance agreement, started in April, and has included a complete refurbishing of the tower.

FOE celebrates fifty years of youth angling, support

The Fraternal Order of the Eagles Number 918 in West Mineral will be hosting their 50th Annual Kids Free Fishing tournament Saturday June 6.Sign ups begin this evening from six to nine and continue Saturday from six to nine in the morning.
