Tax statements delayed by process

County property tax statements though they were dated November 20, finally arrived in mail boxes last week just days from the due date. Though most taxpayers were more concerned about the amount of taxes they owe than the due date.

County Appraiser Thornton resigns

The retirement of Cherokee County Appraiser David Thornton was accepted Monday by the Cherokee County Commissioners. Thornton said he plans to go into private practice with his son, they will be doing private appraisals. Thornton has been the county appraiser in Cherokee County since July of 2021.

Columbus Mercy Auxiliary met November 21st, 2023 at the St. Rose Parrish Hall. Janie Jarret, President, opened the meeting leading the members reciting the flag salute. Vice President, Mary Brumback, gave a memorial tribute prayer in honor of member Beverly Rahmeier. She had been a member 11 years.

Barn raising held at new American Royal campus

Yesterday, Governor Laura Kelly attended a barn raising to mark the beginning of construction on the new American Royal campus in Kansas City, Kansas. The facility will be home to a one million square foot food and agriculture educational complex.
