Donald L. “Don” Steeby, 59, of rural Mc-Cune, died unexpectedly Monday, April 8, 2024, at his home near McCune.

Born April 3, 1965, at Parsons, Don was the son of Leon and Donna (Owen) Steeby. He grew up at Mound Valley and Parsons and attended Mound Valley and Labette County schools, graduating from Labette County High School in 1984.

Don worked as a mechanic, for the Flesh Company, Richard Auto Repair, and he also farmed. Don was very skilled at fixing and repairing motors and was known as a “shade tree mechanic”. He liked to hunt and fish and enjoyed his dogs, Chief and Fancy.

Don and Diane “Dani” Wise were united in marriage October 31, 1998, at Parsons. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Darin Steeby of Oswego; his granddaughter, Everly Steeby of rural McCune; his father Leon Steeby of Parsons; his brothers, John Steeby and David “Pooh Bear” Steeby both of Parsons, Larry Steeby of Dennis; his sister, Donna Steeby of Parsons; his in-laws, Duane and Mary Ruth Wise of Parsons; his sister-in-law, Gina Wise of Lee’s Summit, Mo. and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held from 12 to 4 p.m., July 6, at the McCune Community Center.
