Grant writing workshop planned in Columbus

A special grant writing workshop is planned at the Cherokee County Extension Office January 21.In the seminar attendees will learn sources of data for community needs, where to find grants, elements of a great grant proposal and practicing the grant elements.

Former local author to speak at new library

A special author talk and book signing is planned at new Frontenac Public Library.Author Jerry Potocnik, a native of Weir, will be the first author to hold a talk and book signing at the newly opened Frontenac Public Library at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 17.

Radon testing is simple

January is Radon Action Month, an annual reminder from Kansas State Extension for homeowners to test their homes for potentially dangerous exposure levels. Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that seeps into homes from soil, reaching harmful levels without warning.

Offering Warmth in the Wintertime

As we endure the cold months of winter, it can be helpful to reflect on the individuals who may be lacking, or seeking out warmth. We are called upon to guide those in our lives to warmth, both physically and spiritually, when we can.

Reflection on the year

People often rush to determine or begin their “New Year’s resolution” as the turn of December into January occurs. While this is often rooted in motivation and desire to make a positive change in oneself, it can also come from a negative mindset.
