Theft from library unsolved after 40 years

The crime of the century in Cherokee County remains unsolved after nearly 50 years.A valuable and unique gift was presented to the Columbus Library in October of 1960. That gift was a 250-piece collection of carved ivory donated to the Columbus Library by Fred T. Evans.

Delinquent tax sale nets over $607,801

The District Court Room was full and running over Thursday afternoon as 132 bidders purchased 123 pieces of property with delinquent property taxes.The total sales amounted to $607,801, with the largest sale at $255,000 and one property did not sell. Six parcels sold for one dollar.
