Study documents Kansas wind regulations

Kansas has some of the highest potential for wind energy of any state in the nation. Yet until recently, there was no central repository for the differing approaches to wind regulation across the state’s 105 counties.

Donations needed for Thanksgiving boxes

Last year at Thanksgiving time the community came together and gave 206 food baskets to families in the community.This year with the likely lack of government funding food programs, the need undoubtedly be greater.

CLASS celebrates 50 years

CLASS is a non-profit organization serving individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in four counties in Southeast Kansas since 1975.The organization recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with an open house at Columbus facility.

County recycling centers may close

Recycling services in the City of Columbus will cease due to the closing of Southeast Kansas Recycling Center in Pittsburg.This is the location where Cherokee County takes the recycling from the cities.

Community ‘trunk or treat’ events planned

Baxter Springs Kiwanis Key Club will host a Trunk and Treat Extravaganza at Kiwanis Park October 30, from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m.Tricky Trunk or Treat at Spring River Mental Health and Wellness, 6524 SE Quakervale Road, Riverton, will be held Thursday, October 30, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Farmer’s Coop recognized by State

The Cherokee County Farmer’s Cooperative was recognized by the Kansas Department of Commerce as the Southeast Kansas Agribusiness Regional Award Winner at the “To The Stars” Kansas Business awards event recently in Pittsburg.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Dakota Michael Winton, 26, was arrested Wednesday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of driving under the influence and was released on $445 bail.
