Results announced in 2025 Cherokee County rabbit classes

Results have been announced in the 4-H, FFA, and Heritage Youth Association rabbit show. Judges were Kira Hatlestad for the rabbits and Kristie Hatlestad for showmanship. The superintendent was Charla King with committee member Hannah Zahm.

House on Baxter demo list burns

On Tuesday night Randy Barnes asked the Baxter Springs City Council for an extension of time to keep his property off the demolition list.Barnes received a two week extension with an order to at least clean the trash from the property at 539 West Eighth street.

Second tax sale list published today

A second list of properties to be auctioned at the upcoming Cherokee County delinquent property tax auction are published in the News-Report today.According to reports from the tax attorney’s office the new electronic court system choked when the list of 300 properties were being sent to the court.

Keenagers begin rehearsals

The Keenagers, a senior citizens’ chorus, will begin rehearsals for the 2025 fall session on Friday, September 5.Rehearsals will be held from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each Friday in the Riverton Community Building located on the southeast corner of Highway 66 and SE 70th Street in Riverton.

Housers donate to youth program

A generous $50,000 gift from longtime community supporters Wes and Jan Houser will significantly boost the Jasper County CASA endowment fund, helping to ensure that the voices of children in foster care in will continue to be heard for generations to come.

Appraiser gets state recognition

Just as most residents in the county received their property tax assessments the Cherokee County Appraiser, Delinda White, received notice her office was in compliance for the tax year 2025.The local office received a score of 96.

Highway 7 detour route

Two Department of Transportation projects will close Highway 7 affecting the customers of B-3 Construction and general traffic.A culvert project at the intersection of K-7 and Star Valley Road, will close K-7 highway after the Labor Day holiday.
