Due to an error in reporting it was published in Tuesday’s edition that the commissioners vote on the county budget and Neutral Rate were unanimous.This was incorrect Commissioner Jack Garner voted against approving both the budget and the Neutral Rate increase.

Results announced in 2025 Cherokee County swine classes

Results were announced in the 4-H, FFA, and Heritage Youth Association swine show. The judge for the day was Larahmy Blakley and superintendents were Clark Hall and Tony Hodge. Albert Welch was the committee member.

Labette County Jail Report

Cira Rachelle Casey, 32, was arrested Sunday by Oswego Police officers on charges of interference with law enforcement, driving while license cancelled, suspended or revoked ad failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $6,628.50 bail.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Tayten Pamela Hope Hopkins, 24, was arrested Monday by Galena Police officers on charges of interference with law enforcement; obstruct or resist and was released on $2,000 bail.

Titans of the Week

SuperintendentDaniel Grundy began his tenure at Columbus USD 493 in August of 2008 as high school Social Studies teacher and Head football and golf coach. This year, he takes over the helm as district superintendent.

CUHS Principal

Anna Moser is the new principal at Columbus Junior and Senior High School. During her tenure as an educator she taught middle school Math and Science.

Park Principal

Matthew Crain is the new Principal at Park Elementary School. A CUHS Graduate, Matthew also graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2014 and completed his Master of Science in Educational Leadership in 2018.

Central Principal

Aaron Rider returns for his fifth year as Central Elementary School Principal. He grew up on a farm northwest of Columbus and graduated from Southeast High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in English Education from Pittsburg State University.

Assistant Principal

David Dainty is assistant principal for Columbus Junior and Senior High Schools.David was raised in Weir and graduated from Southeast High School. He obtained his Bachelors in Education Degree at Pittsburg State University.
