Troy Haraughty returns for his third year as the Columbus Junior High School and Columbus High School Athletics/Activities Director and first year as assistant principal in the junior/senior high school building. He is a graduate of Columbus Unified High School.

Little Mister, Miss Columbus deadline nears

As of right now, it looks like there may not be a Little Mr. and Miss Columbus this year - there has only been one little girl sign up.Parents have until Friday to register.

Culvert project to close Highway K-7

A culvert project at the intersection of K-7 and Star Valley Road, will close K-7 highway after the Labor Day holiday.Preparatory work surrounding the intersection is expected to last from September 2 to September 14. After that, K-7 highway will be closed at the intersection beginning September 15.

Former local KHP trooper promoted

Former Cherokee County Kansas Highway Patrol Technical Trooper Sage Hill has been promoted to Lieutenant. He will serve as the Troop T Law Enforcement Aircraft Operations Lieutenant.The Kansas Highway Patrol Superintendent, Colonel Erik Smith made the announcement last week.

Gleason named financial officer

Allen Community College has announced the appointment of, former Columbus resident, Matthew Gleason as Vice President for Finance and Operations, effective Monday, September 1.

Mineral ‘All School Reunion’ Saturday

Mineral High School closed 64 years ago but the graduates continue to gather for a reunion.In 1923 there were 37 Mineral graduates at the reunion and 11 others who had attended Mineral High School but graduated from another school after Mineral High School closed.
