In a very close contest Mayor Kelly Abbott edged Casi Shaw in the August preliminary round of the November election for Baxter Springs Mayor.Abbot received 153 votes and Shaw received 126, Shannon McDonough received 36 and Sherry Brown received 14 votes.There were three writein votes.

Casino revenue has slight increase in July

A July revenue of $3,529,821 was reported by Kansas Crossing Casino to the Cherokee County Clerk. This was a slight increase over June’s revenue and the July 2024 revenue. The county’s one percent share was $35,298.21.In June the total revenue was $3,378,385.

Carl Junction man killed in semi, truck accident

A fatality accident occurred Wednesday at approximately 9:53 p.m.A 2018 Toyota Tacoma driven by Dale L. Fillenwarth, 70, Carl Junction, Mo., was traveling north on Southeast 118th Street. A 2020 Peterbilt 389 driven by Matthew A. Mussati, 38, Jay, Okla., was traveling east on Southeast Old 96.
