Judge Bolton to take seat on Appeals Court

Former District 11 Judge Lori Bolton Fleming will be sworn in as judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, before an invited audience in the Supreme Court courtroom in the Kansas Judicial Center, Topeka.

Nominations sought for Baxter HofF

Nominations for the Baxter Springs Sports Hall of Fame will be accepted for the class of 2025, August 1 through September 1, according to the selection board.The deadline for submission is September 1, 2025.

Miners Hall program set

A special program at Miners Hall Museum “SEK’s Native Flora and Fauna” will be held Sunday, August 3 at 2 p.m. Looking ahead to the Wildflower Meadow and Butterfly Garden at the newly created Dragline Park, the public is invited to learn more about the effect these areas will have on local wildlife.

FUMC scholarships presented during service

The First United Methodist Church presented two $1,000 scholarships Sunday, June 8.Scholarship Committee Member, Nancy Evans, made the presentation during morning worship. Recipients were Atticus Johnson and Eliott Johnson.

Labette County Jail Report

Noah Ethan Grider, 20, was arrested Tuesday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, operating a vehicle without registration or with expired tags and driving without headlights and was released on $700 bail.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Taylor Rae Paxson, 31, was arrested Thursday by Quapaw Marshals on charges of distributing certain illegal drugs and use or possess drug paraphernalia for use in the human body and is being held in lieu of $5,500 bail.

Daily routines become predictable

The heat of the summer has officially moved in and with that the day-today summer routines become fairly predictable.For my husband, that means waking up before the summer sun rises to begin the daily irrigation chores and coming home well past dark after completing the evening irrigation duties.
