Sidewalk work now underway

New sidewalk construction has begun on West Maple beginning at the intersection of High School Avenue to Washington Avenue on the South Side of the street.The sidewalk work on East Maple will begin near the intersection of East Avenue East to Reeves Park on the North side of the street.

Four BS candidates file for mayor seat

Four candidates have filed for the mayor’s seat in Baxter Springs causing a primary election in the city on August 5.With the filings closing at noon Monday Casi Shaw filed for the mayor’s seat late in the morning challenging Mayor Kelly Abbott and Shannon Mc-Donough and former Mayor Sherry Brown.

Local KHP officer gets lifesaving award

Recognizing his quick response and immediate application of life saving trauma care, Master Trooper Dakota Smith was presented the Kansas Highway Patrol Life Saving Award.

County will have FBI Task Force Officer

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce a partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to bring an FBI Task Force Officer (TFO) position to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.This TFO position will be assigned to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force program.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Daniel Dee Poole, 43, was arrested Monday by Bureau of Indian Affairs on charges of driving under the influence and is being held in lieu of $900 bail.
