Sports Hall nominations sought

A new round of nominations is open for consideration for the Columbus Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to be held October 10. Anyone may make nominations for consideration into the Hall of Fame as long as they participated in sports or attended school in what is now USD493.

Hamilton named to Graceland Dean’s List

The honor roll lists for Graceland University’s 2025 spring term have been announced, and Brett Hamilton of Columbus has been named to the Dean’s List.Graceland University students with a Grade Point Average between 3.25 and 3.64 are named to the Dean’s List.

Labette County Jail Report

Kris Dewayne Spencer, 50, was arrested Tuesday by Oswego Police officers on charges of aggravated assault, criminal threat and criminal damage to property and is being held without bail.

Mercy Auxiliary delivers fruit trays to staff

Fruit trays and cookies were delivered to Columbus Mercy staff in honor of Hospital Appreciation Month. Members of the Columbus Mercy Auxiliary delivered the treats at the May 20 meeting.The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Melissa Torchia.

Destiny Jasmine Briscoe, 30, was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of bond revocation and is being held without bail.

Members of the American Legion once again recognized the fallen service members with their traditional Memorial Day Service at several county cemeteries. They began at 9 a.m. at the Columbus Cemetery followed hourly by Greenlawn, Edgemand and Hosey Hill. Those involved were Randy Bass, Danny Langerot, Sr., Steve Davis, Mike Colbert and Aron Davolt. Taps was played by Andrew Low.
