Mayor proposes city grant committees

With grants becoming a major part of city funding Baxter Springs Mayor Kelly Abbott proposed to the City Council a plan to have a City Grant Commission.

Friemel named to Weir council

Pam Friemel was appointed to the Weir City Council by Mayor Joe Tavernaro and approved by the city council at their January 13 council meeting.Friemel replaced former council member Dean Gravitt and will serve until the next election.

Baxter seeks new website designer

The Baxter Springs City Council is searching for a web site designer to handle the city’s online presence.The council voted to seek a company which could provide the service.The deadline for submitting a proposal is February 24.

Formal charges have been filed against 48-yearold Cory Joe Spatafora, on three counts of lewd and lascivious behavior.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Caleb Jurelle Henry, 35, was arrested Sunday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of driving under the influence; alcohol or drugs, possession of certain hallucinogenic drugs and driving while suspended and is being held without bail.
