Investigating a fatal crash, Thursday afternoon, the Kansas Highway Patrol have identified the man who died, during a police chase, as 52-year-old John Henry Jones, V, according to a statement from the Labette County Sheriff.

U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas said a freeze on federal funding and change at the U.S. Agency for International Development left $340 million in lifesaving food grown in the United States sitting at domestic ports awaiting delivery to locations around the world where people were starving.

Columbus Life Christian’s Junior (age 12 and younger) team easily outdistanced Ottawa’s Bethel Christian, 75-41, last Saturday. They captured their third straight Midstates Christian League Music and Arts championship and collected their fifth title in six years.

Concert planned at Cherokee Methodist Church

A special evening of music is planned at the Cherokee Methodist Church located at 312 W. Magnolia in Cherokee.Jim Benson will perform a unique blend of love ballads on the piano.The concert, entitled “Some Enchanted Evening” will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, February 14.

Baxter Springs has become the Disc Golf capital of Southeast Kansas with two courses. Last week-end the course on the west edge of Baxter Springs was crowded with golfers. The other course in Kiwanis Park and Riverside was also busy with the disc throwers.
