Alistasia J. Murray was found guilty of defective taillights and was assessed fines and fees of $156. Offense occurred May 24, 2016. Larry L. Kidwell was found guilty of expired or no driver’s license and was assessed fines and fees of $186. Offense occurred November 10, 2017.

The following person appeared before Judge Pro Tem Jerry Wilson in Columbus Municipal Court Monday, June 13 at 4 p.m. Wendy M. Cantrell, 36, Columbus, pleaded not guilty to two counts of theft and criminal use of a financial card. She was set for review July 11.

Servsafe manager training for food safety

The Wildcat Extension District will conduct a ServSafe Food Manager Training and exam Friday, July 8. Training will be held at Kansas State Research Station, 25092 Ness Road, in Parsons. Class starts at 8 a.m. with an exam following course completion.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Dakota Lee Jones, 33,was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on a warrant and is being held without bail. Tyrone Daniel Hart, 45, was arrested Thursday by Galena Police officers on three warrants and is being held in lieu of $6,300 bail.

With the increasing price of fuel, law enforcement encourages residents to take precautions to protect themselves against theft of gas from their vehicles.

Voters pass sales tax continuation

Less than ten percent of the eligible voters turned out to approve the renewal of the one-half percent sales tax at the polls Tuesday. The continuing of the sales tax received 175 yes votes and 27 no votes, of the 202 votes cast.

USD493 Board sets lunch, fees for students

School lunches in the Columbus School District will be the same prices as they were in 2019- 2020 school year. Kansas schools received free lunches during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21, 2021-22 school years. The schools will be charging $1.

New phone number at courthouse offices

A new central phone system is being installed at the Cherokee County Courthouse which will allow callers to select from a list of phone numbers instead of dialing direct into the offices. The new number for all courthouse departments will be area code 620-429-9500.
