Multiple narcotic related search warrants were executed by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies early Friday morning.

Cox asks city for franchise approval

Seeking a franchise to operate in the City of Columbus, Cox Communications has contacted the City Administrator Jake Letner. Letner brought the proposal to the City Council during their Monday night work session.

Council changes personnel plan

Updating the personnel policy the Columbus City Council discussed their current discipline and separation policies. Most of the changes concerned the former personnel committee, which was eliminated when the council decreased from ten to five members.

A Columbus woman has been elected president of Pittsburg State University Alumni Association for 2022. Angie Saporito, administrator of Mercy Columbus Hospital has been elected to serve as president of the PSU Alumni Association.

Labette County Jail Report

Doris June Haney, 71, was arrested Tuesday by Oswego Police officers on charges of theft of property or services and was released on $398.50 bail. Kyle Baker Carter Ornder, 23, was arrested Tuesday other state agency on a warrant and is being held without bail.

Area Accident Report

A one-vehicle accident occurred June 11 at approximately 11:27 p.m. A 2006 Chevrolet HHR driven by Jason E. Campion, 50, Galena, was traveling south on Peace Church Road approximately one mile north of Joplin, Mo. Campion ran off the roadway and overturned.

Fireworks fundraiser finale set June 24

A final fireworks fundraiser is planned for Friday, June 24 at the Columbus Fire Station. Between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. you can drive through the station and pick up lunch. Pulled pork sandwiches will be on the menu. For an $8 donation you can help support the Community fireworks display.
