Columbus Day booth space available now

The Columbus Day committee is now accepting 2022 vendor space applications. Several food and craft vendors have already registered. The one thing it tells us is that vendors are ready to get out and participate in festivals.

4-H Horse Project sign up time

One of the most rewarding projects in 4-H is the 4-H Horse Project. Cherokee County families are invited to take part in this project. Practices are divided between Columbus Saddle Club Arena and Rippel Arena this summer. The horsemen and women learn invaluable skills to train their horses.

Home preservation of foods has been a foundation of Cooperative Extension Education. Early history reveals that Extension Agents have been helping local housewives preserve food using recommended practices since the beginning of Extension work in the early 1900’s.

Columbus Fire Department as well as several other county agencies, responded to a fire on NW Orchard Ln north of Columbus April 18. A residence on the block and much of its surrounding property was engulfed in flames just before 3 p.m.

County nears deal for energy

The scope of options continues to narrow as the Cherokee County Commissioners have been honing in on a new natural gas supplier. Mike Williams from Hamlin Energy returned to give the board a narrowed list of suggested suppliers as part of their meeting on April 11.

Miller reception to be held Thursday

A farewell reception is being planned to thank outgoing Cherokee County Economic Development Director Janet Miller for her countless contributions made in the role. The event will take place in the Economic Development Office at 201 E Pine in Columbus 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21.

Gas leak closes school buildings

A gas leak outside the buildings caused Central School and USD 493 School District office to be closed, Friday, though there was no school on those days the buildings were closed.
