Walls being built at Crossland plant

A number of new walls have just gone up around Central Schools in Columbus. USD 493 Superintendent Brian Smith gave the School Board a number of updates on the project during their meeting on April 11. “I think you’re going to see some progress real quick,” he said. “People will be surprised.

Weir shed fire leads to theft, meth arrest

Cherokee County Deputies responded to a fire in Weir Thursday afternoon, where firefighters from the Weir, Cherokee Township, Scammon and Columbus Fire Departments were extinguishing a fully engulfed storage shed fire.

Lindy Leann Kirkwood, 40, was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of failure to appear and is being held without bail.

Boone Dewane Scales, 19, was arrested Wednesday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana and was released on $800 bail.

Bunco games reach seven years of action

In March, the Bunco games at the Hospitality Center reached the sevenyear mark. “What an amazing time that has been. We have made some awesome friendships. If you don’t have anything to do on a Tuesday afternoon from 1 – 3 p.m., stop by and play bunco with us,” said spokesperson Diane Larsen.
