Penelope Tamm Akard, 50, was arrested Monday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of interference with Law Enforcement; obstruct or resist and two counts of failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $3,000 bail.

Two Blue Grass Gospel groups to perform at rally

A fall rally presented by Aaron Williams Ministry will be held November 20 at the Scott’s Farm from 2 p.m. until dusk. Meal will be served at 4:30 p.m. The farm is located at 6294 NE Coalfield Rd. in Scammon. Food and drink will be provided. Two Blue Grass Gospel Groups will be performing.

As I read Heather Morris’s new release “Three Sisters”, I was reminded throughout the story of the closeness between my mother Juanita Taylor Short and her sisters Betty Hall, Virginia Wallace and Bernadine Bourlard. They were reared in this corner of Kansas a half mile from where Dan and I live.

Book group will meet November 22

The Book Discussion group, a facet of the Columbus Public Library, will meet. Monday, November 22 at 9:30 a.m. in the Hospitality Center located on North Kansas Street. “Four Winds”, written by Kristin Hannah, will be discussed. The group welcomes new participants.

The Central Junior High Titans wrestled in Pittsburg, Monday in duals with Fort Scott and Girard. The night also included open matches in the girl’s division and other wrestlers could pick up additional matches in the open format gym.
