Clifton Louis Broyles, 23, was arrested Wednesday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of possession of controlled substance and driving while suspended and is being held without bail. Lindy Lee Anna Kirkwood, 39, was arrested Wednesday on charges of probation violation and is was released.

An entire county was devastated Thursday as word spread of the death of Baxter Springs volunteer firefighter Lt. Malachi Brown. His wife posted on a social media site that the 32-year old firefighter had succumbed Wednesday night in a Springfield hospital.
