Cherokee County Jail Report

Cody Buck James, 38, was arrested Wednesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude; reckless driving and is being held in lieu of $3,000 bail.

Labette County Jail Report

Devin Tyler Wilson, 21, was arrested Wednesday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of possession of marijuana and use or possess drug paraphernalia for use in the human body and was released on $1,100 bail.

Suspect pleads to first degree murder

A guilty plea was entered by Mark G. Hopkins II, to two counts of first-degree premeditated murder for the deaths of 27-year-old Blaze Swank, of rural Scammon and Kylan Shook, 20, of Pittsburg in 2020, according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

Bridge repairs discussed by county

Repairs on the bridge located one mile west of Faulkner on Southwest 110 Street under the KDOT project 5000-201 had been estimated at a cost to the county of $90,000 but with inflation, Cody Zook said the final cost was set at $110,000.

Communities will honor veterans
