Merchants football contest

The winner of the Columbus Merchants football contest this week was Myra Frazier with husband Dennis Frazier taking second place. Though they both missed different games. It was the first time this year a husband and wife took first and second place. The third place went to Robin Jessee.

Prizeweek consolation prize winner

Far from a grand prize winner, Warren Duley took the consolation prize in the Prizeweek Puzzle contest this week, missing five of the preferred answers. This apparently was one of the most difficult puzzles in recent weeks. The grand prize is still available for those wishing to play.

To clarify a story published in the Friday edition of the News-Report, concerning the commissioners spending on asphalt from last year’s budgets It indicated $77,000 was “found” by County Road Superintendent Cody Zook.

Many candidates on town and school ballots Tuesday in Cherokee County are unopposed and virtually assured of election, but voters will elect a mayor, city council members and school board members being challenged during elections Tuesday.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Carlos Francisco Moreno, 51, was arrested Wednesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of driving while suspended, vehicle liability insurance required and unlawful registration and was released on $2,500 bail.

October melancholy
