Roadwork to begin on Cherokee RR crossing

The BNSF Railway will close and repair its crossing east of the U.S. 400/K-7 junction at Cherokee next week. The work is expected to begin at 6 a.m. Monday, October 25, and continue through Wednesday, October 27. U.S. 400 will be closed to traffic at the work zone.

VFW pond gets larger public area

What has become known as the VFW Pond on Country Road near the County Highway lot, has a rich history with it’s connection to the Columbus Ice plant. Recently, the County Highway Department deforested the west side of the pond and turned the entire area into an inviting tourist stop.

Ten digit dialing begins Sunday

Local callers are reminded 620 and 785 area codes must use 10-digit dialing beginning Sunday or the call will not go through. This change affects land line phones, cell phones, notebooks and any other device that uses phone numbers for communications.
