Football contest winners

This week Carolyn Eddington moved from second place to first place in the Columbus Merchants football contest in a week full of upsets. Lottie Bass took second place and Warren Duley kept it from being a sweep for the ladies taking third place.

Alexander Owen Barnes, 49, was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of interference with Law Enforcement; obstruct or resist, four warrants and failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Monarch butterflies are coming

A stop for Monarch Butterflies during their migration from Eastern North America to the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico has been added at Baxter Springs. Some Monarchs fly as far as 3,000 miles to reach their winter home. Most travel between 50-100 miles per day.
