City surveys to decide recycle

As the recycling program continues to be a point of discussion between the local government agencies. The City of Columbus is surveying their residents about recycling. They are seeking to know how important recycling is to the average taxpayer.

Econ-Dev award nominees told

The nominees for the 2021 Recognition Awards by the Cherokee County Economic Development Corporation have been announced. The four awards have been presented annually since 2017 and allow the Economic Development Corporation to draw attention to some outstanding local businesses and organizations.

Council approves Thomas dog park

A 90-percent grant from the Ronald O. Thomas estate will fund a dog park located at 7th and Cherokee in Baxter Springs. The proposed park will cost $43,920.89 with the city paying $4,000 of the price.

Wind farm builders have been attempting to lease property in Cherokee County offering ten year leases with continuous payments. The plan sounds really good to landowners as they can rent the air above their property and still use the land for crops or cattle.
