Sara Sue Ashley, 38, was arrested Wednesday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of possession of paraphernalia to cultivate less than five plants, possession of certain depressants and disorderly conduct and was released on $670 bail.

With plans to bring ownership of a vital component of life in Southeast Kansas an agreement has been reached by a group of Pittsburg families to acquire the Pittsburg Morning Sun from the current owner the Gannet Company. They will also assume operation of the Columbus News-Report in Columbus.

Bond issue passed by Columbus voters

A small turnout at the polls on Tuesday brought good news to the USD 493 School District and the $14.7-million bond issue was approved by district voters. The unofficial totals tallied on Tuesday night were 783 votes for approving the bond issue and 312 votes against the issue.
