Code permit requirements postponed

The implementation of the permitting will be postponed from the announced August 1, 2021, start date according to a release Friday from the City of Columbus. The city has determined that the code and permitting program will begin at a later date.

District Judge Lynch to retire

The retirement of Cherokee County District Judge Oliver Kent Lynch has been announced by the Kansas Judicial offices. Judge Lynch will retire July 30 from the 11th Judicial District after serving 16 years as a judge, including four years as chief judge. Lynch was appointed judge in 2005.

USD493 plans public tour of Central, Highland

To provide information to the public on the need for passage of the August 7 bond issue a tour of the Central Elementary and Highland Elementary facilities is scheduled for Thursday evening July 29. The tour will begin at the Central Gymnasium at 6 p.m.

Galena man dies in motorcycle accident

A motorcycle accident Tuesday, July 22 at approximately 4 p.m. has resulted in the death of a Galena man. Theodore G. Lane III, 20, was traveling south on State Line Road three tenths of a mile north of the intersection at 21st Street in Galena on a 1997 ATV motorcycle.
