Fair ride armbands available

The Cherokee County American Legion Fair Board and Columbus Chamber of Commerce will be working together to offer advance sale armbands for the Cherokee County Fair, July 20 – 24. Armbands are available for purchase at $25 per person, per night.
Harvesting crops can be hot, dusty work. But farming is a vital industry. Without farmers there would be no food. To show appreciation for the hard work of local crews, the Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee and Shamrock 4-H Club teamed up to provide meals to those unloading crops at the elevators. Mya Hamilton waits to take an order as the driver from Edmondson Farms pulls onto the scales to be weighed. Approximately 100 farmers were able to receive a meal at the event.

Book space now for Columbus Day Festival

The Columbus Day committee is receiving vendor space applications every week and inquiries daily. The one thing it tells us is that vendors are ready to get out and participate in festivals.

Putting more than 250 American Flags throughout the community the Baxter Springs Kiwanis Club had a truck full of Flags left for the Fourth of July Parade Saturday morning. It was a day of celebration throughout the county.

Election workers pay set

Compensation for Cherokee County election workers was set by County Commissioners during their Monday session. According to the resolution each election board clerk shall receive $150 per election worked.

Prizeweek consolation

For the third week in a row the consolation winner missed only one in the Prizeweek Puzzle contest. Cheri Walden, missed 17 down and had all the other preferred answers. She will receive $10 in Chamber Gift Certificates .
