Democrat meeting Thursday

The Cherokee County Democratic Party will meet Thursday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Riverton Post Office. All Democrats and like minded citizens are encouraged to attend. Plans will be discussed regarding summer and fall events.

Second injury accident at K7, US160 intersection

At approximately 11:34 a.m., Thursday, July 1, emergency personnel were dispatched to the K7 / US160 Junction for a twovehicle crash with injuries.

Fourth of July festival in Baxter

The Fourth of July, well the third of July, was extra festive this year in Baxter Springs. It all started with a breakfast served by the American Legion. The first Independence Day Parade held in Baxter Springs hosted by the Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Jump in COVID-19 county, state cases

A major increase in COVID 19 cases in Cherokee County was reported by County Health Director Betha Elliott. There were 35 positive cases in May which jumped to 138 in June.

Linus Group provides over 6,000 blankets

The need locally for children’s weighted blankets is being met by a group of women in Lowell. Known as the Lowell Friends Linus Group, the ladies meet weekly and sew blankets and other items for youngsters. They named their group after the Peanut’s comic strip character “Linus.

Columbus has many activities to see, do

Are you aware of what we have to offer to our visitors, when they visit Columbus and the surrounding area? The Chamber Office gets told several times a year that a local resident has been asked a question about our community and says, “We have nothing, go to Joplin or Pittsburg”.

Matt Case, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee and several members of the Shamrock 4-H Club turned out to fix hamburgers and drinks for farmers unloading at Farmers Coop. Wyatt Hall, Case, Gracie Jo Hall and Michelle Hamilton were preparing the burgers.
